Compact Hexapod for High Accuracy Positioning

The BORA hexapod is a compact 6DOF parallel kinematics system designed for the precise positioning and adjustment of elements with a resolution of 0.1 µm.

BORA meets the stringent requirements of optics and nanotechnology industries in terms of resolution, accuracy, stability, and size. Its compact dimensions make it suitable for integration in small environments, such as the tip of a goniometer for synchrotron beamline applications or on optical ground support equipment for aligning and calibrating space optics.

The BORA hexapod can be oriented in any direction: vertical, horizontal, or even upside down.

OPTIONS

  • High vacuum compatibility down to 10-6 mbar
  • Clean room ISO5 (class 100)

A high performance control center

BORA hexapod with NAOS controllerControlling a parallel kinematics mechanism like a hexapod requires rapid and extensive calculations to convert position instructions into motor current set points while ensuring motion security. All hexapods come with a high-performance control rack that interfaces with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or, optionally, directly with your software environment through an Application Programming Interface (API).

A complete and flexible solution

Our racks are made with:

■ a powerful multi-axis Delta Tau industrial controller
■ drivers sized to meet the needs of each application
■ input-output modules allowing various interactions with the hexapod environment.

Our robust and flexible control solutions can adapt to different types of motors (DC, brushless, stepper) and work with various encoder technologies (absolute, incremental, linear, rotary). Additionally, our controllers are compatible with an optional hand-held control unit.

Choosing the right hexapod for you

Symetrie offers a free software, HexaSym, that makes it very easy for you to check the possible travels and load capacities of each hexapod in their range. HexaSym will allow you to select the most suitable product for your application and to test a variety of possible configurations with it.

Help for Hexapod Control

Thanks to an ergonomic Human Machine Interface (HMI), SYM_Positioning hexapod positioning and control software offers simple commands from the home screen, but also generations of movements using specific files. In addition, the center of rotation can be easily changed in the software.

SYM_POSITIONING allows:

■ Safe movement control
■ Position display in real time
■ Generate position sequences
■ The configuration of the center of rotation
■ Configure repositories (coordinate systems)
■ Configuration of limits (position, speed …)
■ API (Application Programming Interface)
■ To be interfaced in C, LabVIEW, EPICS, SPEC, TANGO, Python, Matlab …

Customization

Symétrie can tailor their software to your specific needs and applications.

How to Choose a Hexapod

Choosing the right hexapod is simplified with Symetrie’s free simulation software, HexaSym. This tool allows you to easily check the travel ranges and load capacities of each hexapod in their range, helping you select the most suitable product for your application and test a variety of possible configurations.

Testing Several Parameters

With the HexaSym simulator, you can:

  • Test cumulative travel ranges across multiple axes simultaneously, including “worst-case” scenarios.
  • Change the center of rotation.
  • Define different reference frames.
  • Vary the orientation of the hexapod (vertical, horizontal, or other) and adjust the payload.

HexaSym also features a 3D visualization, enabling you to see how the hexapod moves according to the commanded positions. Additionally, sliders allow for immediate control of movements.
