LETO-720 Spatial Light Modulator: Ultra-Fast Phase-Only LCOS Display

The LETO-720 phase-only Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) is currently HOLOEYE’s fastest SLM option. It features a reflective Liquid Crystal On Silicon (LCOS) microdisplay with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, an active area of 12.29 x 6.91 mm (0.55″ diagonal), a 6.4 µm pixel pitch, and a 93% fill factor.

The LETO-720 combines the high data bandwidth and low latency of the HOLOEYE 4K GAEA-2.1 driver with a high-speed display version of the LETO-3 SLM, offering a fast response time of approximately 1 ma at 520. The device features an input frame rate of 240 fps via HDMI and an addressing bit depth of 6-bit. It includes a front Anti-Reflection (AR) coating with reflectance under 0.5% across the operating spectrum and achieves an average reflectivity between 62% and 72% depending on wavelength. To support high-speed switching rates, the display operates at an elevated temperature of 60°C and includes an integrated Temperature Management System (TMS).

Operating Modes

The LETO-720 SLM offers two operational modes:

• 240 Hz Mode: Leverages high video bandwidth to address true240 Hz data on the SLM, boosting input refresh rates via the HDMI graphics interface and output rates to 240 Hz.

• 720 Hz Modulation (RGB Coded): Utilizes RGB color channels in combination with the 240 Hz mode to stack three consecutive monochrome images into one full-color frame, achieving an effective modulation rate of 720 Hz.

Available Versions

Due to response time characteristics in LC-based devices, the LETO-720 is currently available in a dedicated version optimized for high-speed applications in the visible spectrum:

• LETO-720-VIS-127C: Optimized for the 420-650 nm wavelength range, providing maximum phase modulation up to 635 nm
